Foods to Avoid for Whiter Teeth

The last thing you want to do is un-do all of his or her good work and potentially ruin that new sparkling smile! So, to ensure the longevity of the success of your treatment, there are certain foods and drinks that it is worth eliminating or at least cutting back on for a while.
Drinks to Avoid
Darker drinks such as tea, coffee and fizzy drinks or any colored mineral can stain your teeth. Post-procedure, your teeth can absorb any color for the next three days until they harden again. Juices are fine, but it is best to avoid the juice of grapes, cherries, tomatoes, peaches, raspberries, cranberries, blackberries or cherries or even red wine, soy sauce and cola flavoured drinks. Also, avoid drinking smoothies or ice-slushies as they contain a dye that will stain your teeth. Try not to drink very hot or cold liquids as at these extreme temperatures, the temperature of your teeth tends to change radically- This change in temperature can casue the teeth to expand and contract, and permits stains to penetrate. Whenever you drink liquids, use a straw as this helps reduce the amount of liquid that passes and filters the front of your teeth and minimises the breakdown of enamel.
Foods to Avoid
Any fruit tarts or muffins, tomato-based sauces, balsamic vinegar, beets, sauces with lots of flavouring such as curries, marinades or soy sauce - Spanish, Indian or Mexican food are also best avoided.
Overall, it is advisable to avoid eating dark-coloured foods altogether for a few weeks after your teeth whitening treatment. Dark soups, stews, dark chocolate and other dark-coloured foods can also contribute to staining your teeth and leaving behind a horrible residue. Citrus fruits, due to their acidic properties, also discolour the tooth enamel and should be avoided particularly before bed. If you do eat them, brush and use mouth wash thoroughly after eating them.
Sweets, chocolates and desserts can attract a breeding ground for bacteria if you don't take care of your pearly whites and brush them after eating or indeed cutting back on as much sugar as you can. They can also discolour your teeth and damage your enamel.
Apart from food and drinks to avoid after your teeth whitening, smoking should also be completely avoided as nicotine stains the teeth - not only this but it's a nasty habit and gives you bad breath. We recommend you cut down as much as possible or make a fresh start and quit - for your general health, sparkly skin and pearly teeth.
Overall, try to stick to a healthy diet and drink lots of water where possible. This is good for your body and your skin and bones. Take a multivitamin, some fish oils and plenty of protein to keep your teeth looking and feeling strong.
