What options do I have for missing teeth?

What options do I have for missing teeth?

Speaking can become troublesome and a denture (for one, several or all missing teeth) can feel big and bulky in the mouth. At Seapoint Clinic, our dental implants can change that forever.

Dental Implants can be used to replace one or all of your missing teeth. They can also be used to make a loose denture more comfortable and secure. They are the best way to replace a missing tooth, allowing you to have a brand new tooth, with a tooth root, that looks and feels like your own natural tooth. They do not cover your palate and allow you to taste your food properly again…

At Seapoint Clinic, we offer a range of Dental Implant solutions, depending on your needs and your budget.

If you are missing a single tooth:

When replacing a single tooth, a regular dental implant provides you with a brand new tooth root. This helps to maintain the jaw bone and gum and also reduces the chance of you losing any surrounding teeth due to decay or tooth movement. Other options include a denture or a bridge or to simply leave a space, but bone loss and tooth movement can occur.

We usually start the whole process with a simple CT scan, which is carried out on-site in our clinic, to see what kind of treatment you require. A dental implant is a very simple procedure to have done. The implant itself is placed under local anaesthetic and you will feel nothing apart from a gentle vibration. If you are very nervous, we can offer oral sedation but most patients feel the procedure is even easier than having a tooth extracted or a filling done!

The implant is left to heal under the gum for 3-4 months and during this time you can wear a temporary denture to cover the gap in your smile. When the gum has healed the new permanent crown is gently placed and you will have your old smile once again, allowing you to eat and enjoy your favourite foods again!

If you are missing several teeth:

Dental implants are the best way to replace several missing teeth. Unlike dentures, they are fixed in place and will maintain the jaw bone over time so that you do not lose your facial profile and can continue to chew properly. They are the only way to prevent further bone loss once the teeth are gone. Dentures can also become looser over time whereas implants have the potential to last a lifetime.

Bridges are also an option for replacing missing teeth. The larger the space present, the more likely you are to have problems with the bridge. If any of the supporting teeth become decayed, then the whole bridge will be lost and you will end up needing a denture. With implants, there is no more tooth decay and so this cannot happen. Bridges also cannot maintain the jawbone the same way implants can and so you will continue to lose facial profile with bridges.

If you are missing several teeth, we would normally advise to opt for one implant per missing tooth. It is sometimes possible to place less than one implant per tooth and to bridge the gap between those teeth, but this will be advised by your dentist.

If you are missing all of your teeth:

Dental Implants vs Dentures

Many people suffer a great deal of discomfort and embarrassment as a result of their loose or ill-fitting dentures, often avoiding social interactions involving food or public speaking as a result of their discomfort. Although some people find their denture comfortable and secure, others may need that extra stability of having an implant retained denture, or indeed having fixed-in permanent teeth that do no move or come out after years of suffering with their denture. Below you have two of our most popular options:

Implant Retained Dentures

Click-tite Dentures are implant retained dentures, the premium solution for dentures. They eliminate looseness and stop the bone loss that occurs with regular dentures. They are the strongest anchor available for your dentures- They click into place and feel tight and secure. We have seen hundreds of people benefit from improved appearance and better chewing capability and comfort with these implant-supported dentures.

Fixed-in Teeth

It is also often possible to get rid of dentures entirely and to opt for fixed teeth, which you brush in your mouth and do not take out at night. These take up less space in your mouth, with no palate, and are the most comfortable replacement for missing teeth. Teeth in a Day is the ultimate permanent solution for people with missing or failed teeth and even denture wearers, giving you fully fixed-in teeth in just one day! Even if you have been previously told you do not have enough bone to support dental implants, we offer the ultimate solution.

With modern techniques at Seapoint Clinic, you can watch your favourite film, take a nap, and relax at your leisure after your dental implant placement in our patient relaxation area.
