Top Tips To Keep Teeth Tip Top
With Easter just around the corner, it's easy to give in to all that chocolate. Obviously, we're not saying you can't enjoy a well deserved treat (we're already licking our lips!) but it is important that you don't forget about your oral health. With the nation spending an eye-watering €40 million on Easter eggs last year alone, it's safe to assume that trend will continue this year. So it should come as no surprise that the Dental Health Foundation are recommending you eat your Easter treats within reasonable moderation, all the while making sure you keep care of your teeth and gums. Tooth decay can occur to anyone of any age when they consume food and drinks which contain high amounts of sugar and starches. This can lead to the plaque on your teeth mixing with the sugar and being converted into acids that attack the surface of your teeth. Without proper care, this can lead to decay or holes forming in the teeth. So, what can you do to look after your teeth this Easter.
For starters, be sure to brush your teeth twice daily as well as using mouthwash and dental floss for the areas where your toothbrush may not be able to reach. Be sure not to forget to brush your tongue with the rough edges found on the other side of your toothbrush's head, this can help kill bacteria and eliminate bad breath. Try also to have a glass of water instead of a fizzy drink after eating your Easter egg, the water will help neutralise the acids attacking your teeth and the added fluoride can help repair the early effects of tooth decay by remineralising the tooth enamel.
Finally, always be sure to visit your dentist. It may be the last thing anyone is thinking about on Easter, but a simply check-up with your dentist may prevent a lifetime of problems from occurring.
