Dental Resolutions 2018
The New Year is a great time to create resolutions to help improve your teeth, but one aspect which is often overlooked at this time of year is your oral health. Issues can vary from simply bad habits, putting off that much needed check-up and gum disease or tooth decay. Understanding the benefits of your resolutions can be incredibly motivating and rewarding, especially when the final results are there for you to see, Whatever your goals may be, take small steps towards the bigger picture. Like any resolution, consistency is key!
Improve Toothbrushing and Flossing Routine
Daily brushing and flossing of your teeth is the best way to start improving your oral health. By brushing twice daily, you remove bacteria, plaque and food debris that can build up over the course of the day. When you brush, use a soft bristle or electric toothbrush with fluoridated toothpaste and gently brush your teeth. If you're concerned that you may be brushing too quickly, listen to a song as that is tends to be the ideal length of time to brush your teeth. Be sure to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months, especially if you have suffered from a cold, flu or if the bristles have become frayed. It's also important to floss at least once per day to help reach areas that your toothbrush may not be able to penetrate. By brushing and flossing daily, you prevent gum disease, tooth decay and bad breath.
Healthier Foods and Beverages
An important part of helping you achieve your dental health resolutions is by making healthier choices when it comes to your food and beverage choices, especially those oh-so-tempting snacks! Frequent consumption of sugary and acidic snacks can contribute to tooth decay, so it's important to brush after snacking.

Routine Dental Check-Ups
A resolution to finally make routine dental check-up visits can help prevent gum disease or reveal an existing issue at an early stage. Dental visits occur every 6 months and allow your dentist and hygienist to monitor the condition of your mouth.
