Dental Implants: Weighing up the Options
Looking into dental implants can be overwhelming. After considering factors like price, location, time frame and dentist, it's easy to see why people feel lost when faced with a variety of implant procedures, types of implants and the pros and cons that each one entails.
Our dentists have put together a simple guide for approaching dental implant treatments, as our treatments can be broadly divided into 3 different categories. We also have extensive information written up about other aspects of dental implants, such a treatment abroad vs treatment at home, the price of dental implants and FAQ's.
1 - Fixed Teeth
By fixed teeth, dentists mean replacement teeth that are secured in the mouth permanently. There is no removing the piece to clean it and no need to worry about it coming loose while eating. Fixed teeth are the closest thing to having your natural teeth back again. When its done well, it should look indistinguishable from natural teeth.
This treatment would involve placing a number of implants, which varies depending on how many new teeth need to be replaced. While the implants heal, we'll make you a temporary denture (the conventional type) that your can wear for a couple of months. When the implants have healed, we then fix the crowns and bridges onto these implants permanently and you can throw away the temporary denture.
"Nothing is off the menu now. Thanks to Seapoint Clinic,I can enjoy all my favourite foods again. When my golf buddies are eating their banana sandwiches, I'm tucking into a t-bone steak. I've told them all to go to Seapoint Clinic"
James, Westmeath
2 - Click-Tite Denture
For a lot of patients, click-tite is a comfortable and easy solution. This treatment involves placing dental implants in the gum that can be clicked in to small sockets on a denture. This allows for greater stability and means that the denture is not resting on the gum and causing irritation and bone loss.
Click-tite can be completed in an 'all on four' fashion, meaning that only four dental implants are needed to secure an entire denture. The advantage of click-tite dentures over a regular denture is that it is a slimline denture that doesn't cover the roof of your mouth.
“All the team here are just incredible, they make you feel at ease. I am just so delighted with the end result, as you can see. I’ve a beautiful set of teeth and I just can’t stop smiling. I can only highly recommend Seapoint Clinic and everyone here.”
Jacinta, Dublin
3 - Teeth in a Day
Teeth in a Day is for patients who want to fast-track their treatment and have fixed teeth in just 24 hours. The advantage of doing this is that there is no interim period where you have to wait for the dental implants to heal. With Teeth in a Day, we fit the implants and place the crowns and bridges on them straight away, no temporary denture, no fitting appointments in the future.
This is for patients who aren't comfortable with wearing a temporary denture in the interim period.
All of these dental implant treatments depend on various factors, such as the quality of bone in the jaw, your time, your budget and the dentist's judgment about which treatment would be most suitable for your specific case. To find out about these options, book a consultation and we'll make up a treatment plan and quote for you to have a think about in your own time.
