Dental Implants vs Bridges
Why should I choose a dental implant?
Dental implants are generally the best way to replace missing teeth. They have now been trusted for a generation to provide a safe and comfortable way to solve the problem of missing teeth. Thousands of people have benefited from the comfort that dental implants can bring.
Dental implants are man-made roots that are gently placed where the root of the tooth used to be. There is usually no better way to replace a failed tooth. This new root can be used as an anchor for new teeth or to support a denture. That can mean getting rid of your loose uncomfortable denture or closing an irritating and unsightly gap.
Dental implants are then capped with a crown, which replicates the enamel or visible portion of a tooth, and in many cases the replacement tooth will work just as well, if not better, than the original tooth. The crown is made of porcelain material and is very natural looking.
Why should I choose a dental bridge?
A fixed dental bridge is a non-removable prosthesis that is attached to natural tooth. Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap - these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth - and a porcelain tooth/teeth in between.
For a long time, fixed bridges were the best alternative for people who had lost teeth, as they were quite successful and aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, bridges can also present some problems because the natural teeth that lie on either side of the bridge are filed to accept the appliance.
Your dentist will always give you their recommendations for treatment. Both dental implants and bridge need to be cared for properly so regular check-ups are advisable to prevent any problems arising.
