Dental Tourism: Before You Travel
When you account for flights, accommodation as well as additional charges and some charges that may not have been fully explained - you run the risk of a higher dental bill than you would have by staying at home for your treatment. Seapoint Clinic is by far the cheaper and more reliable service. Like the old saying goes, if it appears too good to be true than nine times out of ten it will be. Everybody loves a bargain, but by not fully researching the clinic that best suits your needs, you may be putting yourself at risk of serious longterm damage. In some cases, patients have returned to Ireland suffering from ulcers, infections, never damage and cracked crowns to name but a few of the issues. So, what should you look out for it you are tempted to travel abroad.
What Type of Implant Is Being Used?
Some overseas clinics may use a poorer quality of dental implants. This may seem like a great money saving treatment, but the benefits are only short term. Detailed studies have found that people have suffered from reactions to the usage of weaker grades of titanium in the dental implant. This has led to severe gum damage and in some cases bone damage, which can require surgery. By using substandard implants and with designs changing over time, any future issues that may develop would mean removing the implant entirely.
What's Included in the Cost of an Implant?
Many dental clinics will often use misleading pricing in an attempt to gain potential Irish customers. At Seapoint all our prices include all parts of the implant - the fixture, abutment and crown. In some cases, clinics may not even include placing the implant itself in their costs, something which is entirely against our ethos of clear and upfront pricing. Your trust and satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.
How Many Implants Are Being Placed?
We have a team of highly trained dentists have placed thousands of implants. In some cases, dentists who place implants in smaller clinics will have completed a short weekend course, but may never have placed any implants. If you find a dental clinic which isn't placing implants on a regular basis, it means they simply cannot maintain the high standards required to perform such treatments.
Is a CT Scan Being Performed?
At Seapoint Clinic, we ask our patients to undergo a quick CT scan prior to implants. Without it, a dentist cannot know for certain how the bone is before uncovering it. This means that you could potentially be faced with a series of unexpected complications and potential additional costs. We even have our own CT scanner onsite, meaning we are able to arrange one easily before treatment and less travel for you. The benefits of undergoing a straightforward CT scan allows us to discover a nerve in an atypical place or sinus extending to where it normally wouldn't go.
Are The Correct Materials Being Used?
Obviously, there is a huge difference between using the correct metals and cheap metals such as nickel. The risk of using these is that it can cause allergies to flare up and could potentially stain the gum. Some dentists abroad have even been known to use plastic, which can cause bacteria to develop over time. At Seapoint, we only use precious metals or pure porcelains in our restorations, meaning that you get the best possible results.
