A veneer is a custom-made, thin later of porcelain that is securely bonded to the front surface of your teeth. It recreates the natural shape and appearance of the tooth. A precisely coloured shade of porcelain is used to closely match the colour of your natural teeth. Veneers are used to create bright, white smiles with beautifully aligned, shapely teeth. They also protect the surface of damaged teeth and may eliminate the need for more extensive treatments.

There are two main types of material used to make a veneer; porcelain and composite. A composite veneer can be placed directly onto the tooth and is also referred to as bonding. It can also be made in a dental lab and later bonded to the tooth using dental cement. A porcelain veneer can only be made in a dental lab and then cemented onto a tooth. Porcelain veneers are more durable and are somewhat less likely to stain than veneers made of composite materials. Composite veneers are generally more budget friendly than porcelain veneers.
