A New Year’s You: Dental Resolutions
After the holiday period a lot of us make efforts to improve and fix our dental health. This can often prove very difficult but implementing the right habits from early on can make all the difference!
In order to maintain a picture perfect smile it is important to implement a good standard of oral hygiene into your daily routine. It may seem obvious, but brushing twice a day , flossing daily and cutting back on sugary or starchy foods are vital to protecting your oral health.
Tooth decay is caused by plaque and tartar build up which can lead to a number of problems such as cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis , bad breath and even problems affecting your overall health such as heart disease.
There are numerous ways to keep on top of your oral care:
- Floss at least once daily. It is best to floss before brushing your teeth.
- Replace your toothbrush every two to four months. Your toothbrush is a sanctuary for bacteria due to the high amount of moisture and oral debris.
- Use a high fluoride toothpaste to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay.
- Avoid sweets and sweetened drinks.
- Eating a healthy diet can prevent gum disease.
- Schedule regular check-ups with your dentist to identify progress and threats to your oral hygiene. Book an an oral hygiene check up today, email info@seapointclinic.ie or call us on (01) 284 2570.
Try and implement these good practices into your child’s daily routine to prevent problems in the future.
Happy New Year from all of us at the Seapoint Clinic!
